Love and trust

Can we love and not trust?

I was wondering if I have it within me to love someone I cannot trust. I had been speaking with a friend through email about friendship and trust, and that interconnection.

Love is ever so complicated. We may love someone selflessly. Or we may love them out of need. Or we may love them in a balanced, reciprocated way.

I think about God and how he knows us so well. He can be sure we will fail him. He can be sure that we will be selfish. He knows us better than we know ourselves. His love though, is unfailing. It’s not a human love, and maybe that’s the great divine between him and me. He can’t really trust us, but he loves us just the same. He loves us with an unfaltering, rock solid love.

 Maybe we can dwell on these verses.

Ps 13:5

But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.

Ps 9:10

Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.
